We were going to Italy... The delegation of the Leningrad Relief Society was headed by the head of our charity organization, writer Daniil Alexandrovich Granin. Francesco Giannelli flew to Kiev to donate an ambulance with the most modern equipment to the Chernobyl polyclinic. Then there was a reception with the chairman of the Kiev City Executive Committee. Francesco Giannelli was talking about the centuries—old history of his organization, and suddenly - it was a complete surprise to him - he heard: "There is also a Relief Society in the Soviet Union." He was shown a copy of the newspaper Pravda, which had published a report on the founding conference of a new charitable organization. He said later that he remembered the address — Leningrad, the name of the president — Daniil Granin. Francesco Giannelli changed the route of his trip to meet with a colleague. But in the city on the Neva, I learned that Granin had just left for the capital. And for the first time they met in Moscow.
Great Rome — it's hard to find another epithet — we saw from a height: it stretched under the wing of an airliner from horizon to horizon. It was an ocean boiling with multicolored lights... We were met at the airport. The energetic Francesco Giannelli. after inquiring about the well-being and mood of the guests, he immediately informed: "And now we're going to Florence." The frenzied speed, the feeling of not so much driving as flying.
